Macaroni Beach: Mustique's Wild Atlantic Crescent and Iconic White Sands
Macaroni Beach is a charter location in Mustique & Canouan, a yacht charter area in Grenadines.
Macaroni Beach Charter Guide
Macaroni Beach is one of Mustique's defining natural landmarks, a spectacular crescent of powder-white sand stretching along the island's wild eastern coastline. Facing the Atlantic rather than the sheltered Caribbean Sea, the beach has a much more dramatic character than Britannia Bay, with rolling surf, vivid turquoise water and a thick green canopy rising immediately behind the shoreline. The Mustique Company describes Macaroni as a sweeping eastern-coast crescent and one of the island's signature beaches.
Its appeal lies largely in how undeveloped it feels. There are no rows of beach clubs or commercial buildings along the sand, leaving the coastline dominated by palms, tropical vegetation and open sea. Mustique's famous beach-picnic culture extends to Macaroni, where dedicated thatched picnic gazebos can be arranged for eligible island guests through villa or hotel teams.
For yacht charter guests, Macaroni Beach is best understood as an excursion from Mustique's official yacht base at Britannia Bay rather than a cruising anchorage in its own right. Mustique tightly manages yacht access and marine conservation around the island, and visiting vessels are required to use Britannia Bay rather than anchoring independently off beaches such as Macaroni. Shore access can also be restricted for visiting yacht guests, so current permissions should always be confirmed before planning a visit.
Macaroni Beach Navigation
Macaroni Beach lies on Mustique's eastern, Atlantic-facing coastline, where conditions are considerably more exposed than on the western side of the island. Persistent trade winds and Atlantic swell create breaking surf along the beach, and the Mustique Company specifically identifies Macaroni and nearby Pasture Bay as locations for surfing and bodyboarding while warning visitors to be cautious of currents.
Visiting yachts should not approach Macaroni Beach expecting to anchor offshore. Mustique's official conservation rules prohibit anchoring around the island to protect coral reefs and seagrass beds, with visiting vessels directed to the managed moorings at Britannia Bay. Yacht guests wishing to reach Macaroni should therefore secure the vessel at Britannia Bay and arrange permitted land transport across the island if access is available.
Macaroni Beach Anchorage
There is no designated yacht anchorage at Macaroni Beach. The exposed Atlantic coastline, breaking surf and Mustique's marine conservation regulations make it unsuitable for conventional charter-yacht anchoring. Current cruising information states that Britannia Bay is the only permitted yacht mooring area on Mustique, with anchoring elsewhere around the island prohibited.
Yachts visiting Mustique should reserve a mooring through the Mustique Moorings Office and use Britannia Bay as their base. From there, Macaroni Beach can potentially be visited ashore, subject to Mustique's current access rules. Cruising guidance updated in 2025 specifically notes that Macaroni Beach can be off limits to visiting yacht crews, so captains should verify permissions rather than assuming unrestricted access.
Macaroni Beach General Information
Macaroni Beach represents the wilder side of Mustique. While beaches such as Britannia Bay and Endeavour Bay generally offer gentler Caribbean conditions, Macaroni's Atlantic exposure produces stronger waves and a more rugged atmosphere. Mustique recommends the beach for surfing and bodyboarding, while calmer Lagoon and Gelliceaux beaches are better suited to snorkeling and paddleboarding.
The surrounding hills contain several of Mustique's private villas, including Macaroni Beach House, which overlooks the bay and has its own private nature trail toward the shoreline. The limited development visible from the sand helps preserve the secluded appearance for which Macaroni has become famous.
