Glossy Bay: Turquoise Waters and Luxury Yacht Cruising on Canouan

Glossy Bay is one of Canouan's most distinctive yacht charter destinations, a turquoise bay on the island's southwestern coast where a beautiful Caribbean shoreline meets some of the most advanced marina infrastructure in the Grenadines. South Glossy Bay is known for its white sand, clear water and wide views toward the southern Grenadine islands, while Sandy Lane Yacht Club occupies the protected marina basin immediately beside it.

The bay offers a completely different experience from Canouan's traditional anchorage at Charlestown Bay. Instead of anchoring offshore beside the village, yachts visiting Glossy Bay can berth within a purpose-built marina offering 120 serviced berths for vessels up to 100 meters. Restaurants, bars, a supermarket, bakery, residences and leisure facilities surround the marina, creating a polished waterfront base that is particularly well suited to luxury motor yachts and superyachts.

Glossy Bay is also ideally positioned for exploring the southern Grenadines. The Tobago Cays are only about six miles away, while Mustique lies approximately 14 miles north. Canouan Airport sits directly beside the marina, making Glossy Bay especially convenient for guest arrivals, departures and yacht charter itineraries involving private aviation.

Yachts approaching Glossy Bay should use the established entrance to Sandy Lane Yacht Club on Canouan's southwestern coastline. The marina publishes an entrance waypoint of 12°41.93'N, 61°21.26'W and monitors VHF Channels 16 and 68. Captains should contact the marina before entering so the dock team can provide arrival instructions and berth allocation.

The marina basin ranges from approximately 3 meters in the flushing channel to around 6 meters at mean sea level in the main basin, while current marina information lists a maximum yacht draft of about 5.5 meters. Canouan Airport lies immediately beside Glossy Bay, so crews should also remain aware of aircraft movements when operating near the southwestern shoreline.

Glossy Bay is primarily a marina destination rather than a conventional open anchorage. Most charter yachts visiting the bay berth at Sandy Lane Yacht Club, where 120 berths accommodate yachts up to 100 meters and provide shore power, potable water, fuel, sanitation pump-out, Wi-Fi and security.

Yachts preferring to remain at anchor generally use Charlestown Bay / Grand Bay farther north on Canouan's western coast. That bay offers good holding in sand but can experience strong gusts and northerly swell. For yachts prioritizing secure berthing, utilities and immediate access ashore, Glossy Bay is the more comprehensive option.

Glossy Bay has developed into one of Canouan's principal luxury waterfront areas. Sandy Lane Yacht Club includes dining at Shenanigans and Foxy Jack's, a crew bar, bakery, supermarket, residences and recreational facilities. Shenanigans sits directly on the white sands of the bay and looks south across the Grenadines.

The marina is also a Port of Entry for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, allowing Customs and Immigration arrangements to be handled in Canouan. Combined with the neighboring airport and immediate access to the Tobago Cays, this makes Glossy Bay particularly useful as an embarkation point, guest-change location or luxury stop during a longer Grenadines yacht charter.
