Admiralty Bay: Bequia’s Iconic Yacht Harbour in the Heart of the Grenadines

Admiralty Bay is the great natural harbour of Bequia and one of the most iconic yacht anchorages in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Curving deeply into the island's sheltered western coast, the bay combines clear Caribbean water, green hillsides and a waterfront lined with restaurants, small hotels and traditional island businesses. Port Elizabeth sits at its northern end, while Princess Margaret Beach and Lower Bay stretch south along the coast. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority describes Admiralty Bay as a large natural anchorage protected from the prevailing winds.

For yacht charter guests, Admiralty Bay offers an ideal balance between life aboard and time ashore. Tenders and water taxis connect anchored yachts with Port Elizabeth, while the Belmont Walkway follows the waterfront toward Princess Margaret Beach. Restaurants and bars sit directly beside the sea, making it easy to swim in the afternoon, return to the yacht for sunset and then head ashore again for dinner overlooking the anchorage.

Admiralty Bay provides extensive anchoring space on both sides of the central ferry channel and is widely regarded as one of Bequia's most sheltered yacht stops. Yachts can anchor in suitable sandy areas or use locally operated mooring buoys. Because moorings are not uniformly inspected or regulated, visiting crews are advised to verify the condition and security of any mooring before relying on it.

Farther south, Princess Margaret Beach and Lower Bay offer beautiful alternatives for yachts wanting to anchor closer to Bequia's best-known beaches. These areas are designated swimming zones, and yachts anchoring there are required to remain approximately 200 yards or meters offshore. The southern part of Admiralty Bay can be particularly appealing for a quieter overnight stay while keeping Port Elizabeth within easy tender or water-taxi reach.

Admiralty Bay has been central to Bequia's maritime identity for generations. Port Elizabeth developed around its protected waters, while fishing, sailing and traditional boatbuilding became defining elements of island culture. Today, the bay remains busy with local fishing boats, ferries, cruising yachts and charter vessels without losing the relaxed scale that distinguishes Bequia from larger Caribbean ports.
