Paradise Beach: Turquoise Water and Sandy Island Views on Carriacou

Paradise Beach is one of Carriacou's signature yacht charter destinations, a long ribbon of pale sand and calm turquoise water stretching along the west coast at L'Esterre. Sea grape, coconut and almond trees provide natural shade behind the shoreline, while Sandy Island appears almost directly offshore, creating one of the most recognizable views in the Grenada Grenadines. The Grenada Tourism Authority highlights Paradise Beach for its clear, calm water, white sand and remarkably uncrowded character.

The atmosphere is relaxed rather than resort-heavy. Small restaurants and beach bars sit close to the sand, giving yacht guests an easy place for lunch, seafood or sunset drinks after swimming ashore. Paradise Beach is also popular with Carriacou residents, particularly at weekends, so it offers a more genuinely local experience than many private-island beaches farther north in the Grenadines.

Its location makes Paradise Beach particularly appealing from a yacht. Sandy Island is only around a five-minute boat ride offshore and offers superb snorkeling, powder-white sand and shallow turquoise water. The wider L'Esterre Bay area also falls within the Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area, an ecosystem protecting reefs, seagrass, mangroves and marine life along this section of Carriacou's west coast.

Paradise Beach fronts L'Esterre Bay on Carriacou's western side, north of Tyrrel Bay and opposite Sandy Island. The approach is generally straightforward in good visibility, but the offshore islands, reefs and shallow marine habitats require careful use of current charts when moving closer to shore. Sandy Island and the surrounding reef system are especially important navigational features immediately west of the beach.

The water off Paradise Beach becomes shallow enough that deeper-draft yachts should remain farther offshore. Cruising sources have historically identified the bay as particularly suitable for shallow-draft yachts, while recent anchorage information confirms both anchoring and mooring options within L'Esterre Bay. Captains should approach during daylight and visually identify clear seabed before positioning the yacht.

Paradise Beach has a recognized yacht stopping area within L'Esterre Bay. Current cruising information lists anchoring as permitted and reports a small number of visitor moorings, with a seabed consisting of both sand and seagrass. Yachts choosing to anchor should seek clear sand and avoid sensitive seagrass or coral habitat.

The bay forms part of the Sandy Island/Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area, which was established to protect extensive reefs, seagrass beds and mangrove habitat. Mooring systems have specifically been planned for Paradise Beach and L'Esterre Bay to reduce yacht-related damage to the seabed. Crews should confirm current MPA rules locally and inspect any mooring before relying on it.

For a more protected overnight base with full yacht services, Tyrrel Bay remains the stronger option. Paradise Beach is best suited to a relaxed daytime stop or overnight stay in settled conditions, particularly when guests want immediate beach access and easy tender trips to Sandy Island.

Paradise Beach sits beside the village of L'Esterre and is one of Carriacou's best places to combine beach time with local island culture. Restaurants and bars line parts of the shore, while changing facilities and locally made crafts are also available. Grenada Tourism Authority describes it as Carriacou's signature shoreline and specifically highlights its views toward Sandy Island.

Sandy Island is the obvious companion excursion. The tiny protected island lies just offshore and is known for powder-white sand, snorkeling and occasional sea turtle sightings. A yacht charter stop at Paradise Beach can therefore combine swimming and dining ashore with a short tender trip into one of Carriacou's most beautiful protected marine environments.
