Anse La Roche: Secluded Beach Cruising on Carriacou's Wild North Coast

Anse La Roche is one of Carriacou's most secluded yacht charter stops, a small crescent of pale sand enclosed by forested headlands on the island's northern coastline. With no road reaching the beach directly and very little development visible from the water, the bay feels considerably more remote than Paradise Beach or Tyrrel Bay. Grenada Tourism Authority describes it as a hidden beach surrounded by thick foliage, with clear Caribbean water and excellent snorkeling.

The bay's clear water and rocky outcrop make snorkeling one of the main reasons to visit. Parrotfish, spotted drums, spiny lobster and rays are among the marine life associated with the Anse La Roche reef, while nearby Triggerfish Alley and Arc Du Vero are recognized as relaxed dive sites suitable for less experienced divers.

For yacht charter guests, Anse La Roche offers the kind of simple Caribbean stop that is increasingly difficult to find. Anchor in the bay, swim ashore, explore the reef or follow the trail into Carriacou's northern hills. The beach can also be reached by an approximately half-mile trail from inland, but arriving by yacht remains the most natural way to experience its isolation.

Anse La Roche lies near the northern end of Carriacou and is a small bay rather than a developed harbour. The entrance is open enough for a straightforward approach in settled weather, but the rocky headlands and reef areas around the bay make good daylight and current charts important when closing the shoreline.

Because the anchorage is compact, captains should assess available swinging room before committing to a position, particularly when several yachts are already inside. Stronger northerly swell can work into the bay and make both the anchorage and beach landing uncomfortable, so conditions should be evaluated before planning an overnight stay. The bay is best suited to a relatively small number of yachts because of its limited size. Holding in sand is generally considered good, but northerly swell can make the anchorage rolly and wind shifts can change the direction in which yachts lie. Tyrrel Bay remains the stronger choice when crews need maximum shelter, provisioning, fuel or marine services.

One of the bay's defining features is how little development surrounds it. Dense vegetation backs the sand, while a distinctive offshore rock attracts seabirds and adds interest for snorkelers. The beach is also known as an important sea turtle nesting area, reinforcing its wild and environmentally sensitive character.

Anse La Roche can also serve as the starting point for a rewarding hike into Carriacou's northern hills. Trails climb from near the beach toward the High North area, giving active charter guests the opportunity to combine a remote anchorage with hiking and elevated views across the Grenadines.
